Happydashery is a design led gift and stationary shop specialising in joyful gifts made by independent artists and designers. It was founded by friends Carrie Wainer and Sarah Arkle. Before joining Get Ready for Business Growth Happydashery had enjoyed steady growth and great success. The addition of a bricks and mortar workshop space meant they could expand their service offer, but Carrie and Sarah also found they were increasing stretched and working 'in their business rather than on it'.

The decision to engage with Get Ready for Business Growth was driven by its credibility and a perception of neutrality when compared to other support programmes. They were also attracted by the prestige associated with the British Library brand.
“We knew we’d gain knowledge, but we didn’t realise we’d be equipped with the actual tools and techniques to grow our business ourselves.”
Through Get Ready for Business Growth, Carrie and Sarah found the confidence and tools to take Happydashery forward, grow revenue, and make strategic decisions, particularly around hiring.
"The whole British Library team was amazing. Julie (relationship manager) was like a cheerleader for our business - supportive, friendly, and encouraging."
Carrie and Sarah found every element of support useful. The workshops were pitched at the right level, and the pair benefited from interacting with others facing similar challenges. The Marketing Workshop stood out as refreshingly clear and practical, and one-to-one support, particularly Finance and Strategy, gave them actionable insights, including how to structure cashflow and prioritise strategic planning.
"The Finance one-to-one sessions were game changing, enabling us to assess our financial situation and reinforce how crucial cashflow is to scaling the business."
The British Library’s research support was also invaluable. They received a detailed competitor analysis, both locally and nationally, helping them build a UK-wide online audience.
Happydashery has grown significantly since engaging with Get Ready for Business Growth. The support helped them strategically, allowing the much needed shift from working in the business to working on it, positioning them for continued growth and success.
“Our time is much more valuable now, and we’ve got a better understanding of how to use it wisely.”
They have developed new offers, including Craft Play sessions, children’s parties, and adult paint sessions, and have begun offering corporate workshops for clients such as Lush.
“Increased confidence has been the biggest impact of the support, and it’s given us belief in what we’re doing and how to grow our business.”
On a personal level, the programme had a significant impact, with increased confidence being the biggest takeaway. The expert advice they received was affirming, and gave them the courage to make changes and trust their decisions. Before the programme, Mondays were spent on administrative tasks, now Carrie and Sarah dedicate that time to strategic thinking and meeting potential clients, focusing on long-term growth rather than day-to-day operations.
